International Applicants
International applicants should observe the same application periods and ensure sufficient time for:
- Recognition of previous qualifications
- Visa processing (if applicable)
- Enrollment procedures
- Submission of all required documents
Applicants with foreign university degrees should apply as early as possible to allow enough processing time before the semester begins.
International Application Process (THWS)
International applicants must complete two mandatory steps:
- Obtain a Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD) (or an accepted equivalent such as APS or ZAST/ZAB).
- Submit an application through the THWS Campus Portal.
Important: Your application can only be processed after the required VPD (or equivalent) has been uploaded.
---
Step 1: Obtain a Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD)
International applicants must first obtain a VPD (Vorprüfungsdokumentation) through uni-assist to verify that their academic qualifications meet the admission requirements for a German university.
How to Apply
- Bachelor VPD (for Bachelor's programmes)
- Master VPD (for Master's programmes)
- School leaving certificate
- University certificates (if applicable)
- Proof of previous study periods
- Register on uni-assist.
- Apply only for a VPD, not for a study programme.
- Select the correct VPD:
- Select Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) as the destination university.
- Upload the required documents:
- Submit the application online.
Postal submission is not required.
---
Important Notes
- Only THWS-specific VPDs are accepted.
- VPDs issued for other universities cannot be accepted.
- The uni-assist evaluation typically takes 4–6 weeks.
- Applicants should begin the VPD process as early as possible.
- The first VPD application costs €75 (uni-assist fee).
---
VPD Validity
- A VPD is valid for 2 years from the date of issue.
- It can be reused for future THWS application periods within this validity period.
---
Exceptions to the VPD Requirement
APS Certificate (China, India, Vietnam)
Applicants with qualifications from China, India, or Vietnam may submit an APS Certificate instead of a VPD.
The APS certificate must verify the applicant's:
- Full university entrance qualification, or
- Bachelor's degree
If the APS certificate does not fully verify the qualification, applicants must still obtain a VPD through uni-assist.
---
ZAST / ZAB Recognition
Applicants already residing in Germany may submit:
- ZAST recognition, or
- ZAB recognition
These are accepted as equivalents to a VPD.
---
Other Exceptions
Limited exceptions may apply to:
- Applicants from THWS partner institutions
- Applicants with specific recognized school qualifications
Applicants should contact:
degreeseeker@thws.de
for clarification.
---
Step 2: Apply through THWS Campus Portal
Applicants must also submit an online application through the official THWS Campus Portal.
Required Documents
Upload the following PDF documents:
- School certificates
- Bachelor's degree certificate (for Master's applicants)
- Official transcripts
- Certified translations (if documents are not in German or English)
- VPD / APS / ZAST recognition
- Passport or ID
- Proof of language proficiency
- Any programme-specific documents (e.g., internship certificates)
Applicants must also complete all information regarding previous university studies.
---
Incomplete Applications
If documents are missing:
- THWS will return the application for completion.
- Applicants should upload the missing documents as soon as possible.
For programmes without admission restrictions, missing documents may still be accepted after the application deadline, subject to faculty approval.
---
Applications for Higher Semesters
Applicants seeking admission to a higher semester must additionally provide:
- Certificate of previous enrollment
- Transcript of Records
- Module descriptions
- Credit transfer application
- Evidence of practical modules (if applicable)
Applicants should normally have completed at least 23 ECTS credits.
---
Dual Study Applicants
International applicants who have already secured a company for a dual study programme should contact:
senol.arslan@thws.de
---
Important Information
- Start the VPD application early (processing takes approximately 4–6 weeks).
- You may submit your THWS application while waiting for your VPD.
- However, your application cannot be processed until the VPD (or APS/ZAST equivalent) has been uploaded.
- Applications submitted after the deadline cannot be accepted.
- For applicants from China, India, and Vietnam, an APS certificate may replace the VPD if it fully verifies the required qualification.
